Unearthing serious corrosion threats for buried pipelines in aggressive environments

This presentation will highlight the possible threats that buried on shore pipelines can face from factors that can be very difficult to identify. A variety of chemical conditions, the presence and activity of microorganisms and the contamination of land can all lead to extremely aggressive external environments.

Drawing from DNV GL’s wealth of industrial experience in both corrosion engineering and pipeline failure analysis, the presentation will demonstrate how these conditions can be recognised in the first instance. Using case studies, they will also discuss appropriate and effective methods for monitoring pipeline health in areas which are expected to be aggressive. Finally, they will share experiences of pipeline failure investigations, showing how the root cause of these failures can be exposed and what lessons these pipelines can offer the industry.
