Pipeline operator TransCanada Corporation announces shipping agreements for Heartland Pipeline

World Pipelines,

Canadian energy pipeline major, TransCanada Corporation, has reached long-term shipping agreements to build, own and operate the proposed Heartland Pipeline and terminal projects in Canada.

With a price tag of Cdn$ 900 million, the proposed projects will include a 200 km pipeline connecting the Edmonton region to amenities in Hardisty, as well as a terminal in the Industrial Heartland area north of Edmonton. The 900 000 bpd pipeline and terminal, with a storage capacity of 1.9 million bbls of crude, are expected to come into service during the H2, 2015.

“With Alberta oil production projected to increase by almost 3 million bpd over the next 15 years, it is important to have the right infrastructure in place to move these resources safely and reliably to market at the right time,” said Alex Pourbaix, TransCanada’s President of Energy and Oil Pipelines. “These projects will help link Canadian crude oil resources in northern Alberta to markets in Eastern Canada and the United States.”

Separate regulatory applications for the pipeline and the terminal will be file by the company in 2013.

The company recently announced the Grand Rapids Pipeline project, a 500 km pipeline system to transport crude oil and diluent between the producing area northwest of Fort McMurray and the Heartland region, and Heartland Pipeline project will further expand TransCanada’s liquids transportation capabilities and leverage its extensive operating experience in Alberta.

TransCanada operates 24 200 km of natural gas pipelines across Alberta and 3500 km of crude oil pipelines through its Keystone Pipeline.
